Extensive Background in the Study of PILATES: Ken Gilbert
Ken created ken gilbert | EMBODYMENT in 2007 out of a lifelong commitment to somatic education in body-centered movement.
Ken is a 1st Generation Teacher of The Ron Fletcher Work™ (now Fletcher Pilates) and studied with Fletcher for ten years. This established Ken as a 2nd Generation Teacher of Joe Pilates and is where he obtained his deep understanding of the mechanics of the spine. Ken has evolved his Pilates practice into his program of Pilates based on the fundamentals inherent of the work of Joseph H. Pilates (The Ron Fletcher Work™), and Nia® (Movement arts for fitness training and an integrated lifestyle of Body|Mind|Emotions|Spirit). He is a former First Generation Nia Trainer training of the Nia White, Green, and Blue Belts along with teaching Nia FreeDance.
This lifetime of training and commitment to somatic, body-centered movement led him to create ken gilbert | EMBODYMENT which is based in Santa Barbara, California. His studio is located next to The Dance Hub at 22 East Victoria Street.
Many Santa Barbarans know Ken from his 20 years as a group fitness teacher in a variety of aerobics styles, Pilates and in personal training at the Santa Barbara Athletic Club . He has been a Primary Certification Specialist for the Aerobic and Fitness Association of America and is trained in the principles of the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
Ken is also an actor and director as the co-founder of the DramaDogs Theater Company with his wife E. Bonnie Lewis. DramaDogs recently celebrated their 30 year anniversary of theater in Santa Barbara.
